It's impossible to leave the Yuletide spirit on a journey to Iceland during the holidays - a stopover to Reykjavik will be filled with an overwhelming quantity of Traditional good cheer. The city goes wild for an excellent Christmas festivity, and begins ringing in the season at the end of November, with the illumination of the town's Xmas tree at Austurvöllur square. The festivity features choirs singing carols and the arrival of the first of the "Holiday Lads," 13 Santas who perform all over town through Lent.
Other favorite vacation spectacles consist of the X-mas Village in Hafnarfjörður town, a tiny, joyful town chockfull of businesses selling holiday season souvenirs and traditional foods amid live entertainment, and a visit to Reykjavik's major Xmas Market place in Ingólfstorg Square, which fills with suppliers selling holiday presents, mulled wine and performances from a myriad of musicians.
Finally, to experience an old-fashioned, Nordic Xmas, check out the Christmas event at the Reykjavik City Museum, where displays show how fried bread is made, tallow is employed to make candle lights, and visitors can get to know time honored Yuletide songs and dances.
